12 Makeup Tricks That Make You Look Younger

Steal these age-erasing makeup tips and techniques.
We think it's safe to say that almost every woman wants to look younger. Seriously, who wouldn't like to take a couple (or five!) years off their face? So without further ado, let's serve up the age-erasing makeup tricks that accomplish the goal quicker than you can say "Botox":

On the face:

1. Moisturize. The more hydrated your skin, the younger it looks, so make sure you prep your skin with a lightweight tinted moisturizer before makeup.

2. Take it easy. Overly made-up skin gives a mask-like effect, which can be ageing. Less is more: To mask blemishes and dark circles, dot just a little concealer onto those spots, instead of applying all over the face.

3. Pick liquids and creams over powder formulas. Pressed powder just looks too heavy and tends to settle into -- and emphasize -- fine lines and wrinkles.

4. Get glowing. Look for tinted moisturizers or lightweight foundations with luminescent or light-diffusing particles -- these bounce light away from your skin and make your skin look more radiant and youthful.

5. Use the sheerest of powders. If you have oily skin and can't do without powder, dust a little translucent powder to keep shine away -- just avoid the eye area completely.

6. Flush with a blush. Top with a blush on the apples of your cheeks -- opt for rose- or pink-tone that mimics a natural, flushed glow.

On the eyes:

7. Open up your eyes. Get an instant eye lift by curling your lashes with a lash-curler and applying two coats of lengthening mascara.

8. Prep with a shadow primer. This is important if your lids have fine lines, which can exacerbate creasing. Before you apply your eyeshadow, prime lids with a base to smooth out the appearance of lines.

9. Lighten to brighten. The antidote to tired-looking peepers: Eyeshadow in a pale neutral shade like ivory or silver. Sweep the color along the upper lids to brighten up the eye area.

10. Get a browful. Thick, full brows are synonymous with youth. If you've overplucked your arches over the years, fake fullness by filling them in with a brow powder that's a shade lighter than your natural coloring.

On the lips:

11. Color your pout right. Nude lipstick can make you look washed out, while darker colors can make lips (which naturally thin with age) look even thinner. Your most flattering shade? A neutral rose or berry.

12. Use moisturizing lipstick for a glossier finish, which helps to make lips appear fuller.
