3 Holiday Makeup Looks

Glam up your look with something extra festive -- and totally on-trend!
With year-end fetes around the corner, the holiday season's the perfect time to glam up your look with something extra festive -- be it shimmery eyeshadows or a gorgeous red lipstick. So go ahead and turn heads with these holiday makeup looks that are totally on-trend right now!

1. Glitterati

Dazzle at any party by breaking out the fairy dust. For a touch of shimmer, try an eyeshadow with an iridescent mica, a dab of highlighter on your brow bones and cheekbones, a glimmery gloss on top of your lipstick, or a dust of sparkle across the decolletage. The trick is to apply shimmer only to one area of your face at a time -- don't O.D. on the sparkle, more glitter isn't merrier.

2. Smoky eyes

Play up your eyes by going for a smoldering look -- gunmetal grays and dark browns with a hint of shimmer are hot this season. Prep lids with an eyeshadow primer, then sweep the dark shadow along the eyelids and blend up and out for a smudged effect. Go light-handed at first -- you can always go back and layer more pigment if desired. Follow with a thin sweep of shadow along the bottom lashes. Top with eyeliner on both top and bottom lashlines, and several coats of mascara. Finish with a slick of nude lipstick or gloss to balance your dramatic eyes.

3. Glamorous red lips

A classic festive look, the sexy red pout is best complemented with natural, matte eye makeup and a subtle rosy blush. To prevent lipstick from feathering, try this clever trick from makeup artist Laura Geller: Blot lips with a tissue after applying lipstick. Next, peel the tissue apart and place a one-ply-thick layer across your mouth. Through the tissue, lightly dust translucent powder onto lips and around mouth to lock in the lipstick -- it'll stay put for hours and hours!
