Dilemma: Is it okay to skip the base coat?
Not if you want a great finished result! Always apply a base coat, even if you're in a rush. The base coat gives colored varnish something to stick to so it'll noticeably extend the life of your mani. Prepping your manicure with a base coat also has another benefit: It acts as a protective layer and prevents darker polishes from staining your nails.
